Help Support Humblebee & Me

Do you love Humblebee & Me? I’d love your support to help cover the costs of ingredients, hosting, videos, and content creation! Even $5–$10/month makes a big difference 🙂

Welcome to Humblebee & Me!

I’m Marie—the “me” in Humblebee &  Me. I love to make things—cosmetics, soaps, lotions, lip balms, and most of all… messes. I’m on a journey to ditch shop bought body products and cosmetics and swap them for homemade, high quality, natural alternatives. I post new recipes twice a week (every Monday and Thursday), and I’ve already got over 950 recipes up here for you to look at, plus an FAQ and an Encyclopedia. I’d love it if you DIYed with me!

As seen on…

Whipped Shea Citrus Body Butter

This marvelous body butter is many things I thought it couldn’t be. It is rich in skin-loving shea butter, but not at all greasy. It smells deliciously of citrus, but isn’t photosensitizing. It is lightweight and whippy (and stays that way!), but you don’t have to do...

Conditioning Super Nourishing Hair Balm

One of the first recipes I ever shared on Humblebee & Me was for a "Super Nourishing Hair Balm", all the way back in October of 2011. I'd actually made the balm months earlier, before I'd launched the blog, and had been testing it all summer and fall before I suddenly...

Lemon Rose Foaming Hand Wash

It would seem I cannot get enough of all things rose and lemon these days. I'm ok with it 😄This foaming hand wash smells delicious, foams up into a wonderfully silky lather, doesn't use too many fancy ingredients, and requires no heating! You can just measure...

Lightweight French Lavender Hand Lotion

One of the first products I ever really wanted to dupe was a lavender scented hand lotion from L'Occitane. The scent was the first thing that drew me in—a soft, powdery lavender with hints of citrus and vanilla. It was also a wonderfully light lotion, but still...

Five Alive Citrus Bath Parfait

I will happily admit that I motored through my Unicorn Bath Parfait very quickly—the luscious, silky bubbles and bath water was far too lovely to pass up if there was still some parfait in the jar! So, when Ivan from YellowBee dropped by with some very cool screw-top...

The Humblebee & Me Studio Tour

I'm pretty excited about this post—it's crazy long overdue, and one of my most requested posts ever! Over the years I've had tons of requests to see my studio and how I store my ingredients, and to be honest... up until recently it really wasn't pretty....

Lavender Spruce Shower Gel

This fun, bright shower gel emerged out of a series of experiments I did last summer when I got a bag of Sodium Coco Sulfate for the first time. I basically tried combining it with a variety of different liquid surfactants and transforming those blends into shower...

A Quick Guide to Cetearyl Alcohol & Liquid Oil Ratios

I've been itching to get my hands on some cetearyl alcohol for a while now—readers keep asking me about it, I see it in ingredients lists all the dang time, and I've been reading all kinds of lovely things about it! Now that Windy Point has it available in smaller...

Lemon Rose Facial Lotion

This lightweight, hydration-packed facial lotion is one of my formulas from my Formula Botanica coursework, and it also happens to be the first recipe I'm sharing using hyaluronic acid! I tested this lotion through some of Calgary's driest winter months and found it...

Lots & Lots of Clay Soap

I adore clay in my soap, so I thought I'd try a bar with lots of the stuff. The general rule of thumb I've been following is one tablespoon per 500g/pound of oils so I decided to take that up by about 10x and I'm loving the results. All that clay makes for an extra...

Scottish Rose Salve

In honour of Robbie Burn's day, I'm sharing this recipe for a Scottish Rose Salve today ("O my Luve is like a red, red rose"). It was inspired by a recipe request from Jade, who wrote "I love this [rosebud] lip salve. I've been using it for 9 years and it's a staple....

Houdini Anti Acne Creme

I've had a few requests for a lotion similar to LUSH's Vanishing Creme, so this is it. The idea is the creme will make your acne vanish, so with that in mind, I set out to make my very own Houdini Anti Acne Creme—something worthy of the great Houdini. I took some cues...

Cold Snap Cleansing Balm

I am utterly smitten with this Cold Snap Cleansing Balm. I've already emptied two tins of it. It's perfectly soft and smooth, and leaves my skin delightfully clean without drying it out. A wee bit of menthol gives it a perfect wee tingle that's perfect for first thing...

Fir, Cypress, and Silk Body Lotion

There's been a line that reads "fir and cypress body lotion with sweet undertones (vanilla, floral?)" in my long list of project ideas for quite some time. It's been there for long enough that I'm not entirely certain where the idea came from. Perhaps I tried a hand...

Pumpkin Spice Body Lotion

Allow me to continue to earn my keep on the fairground ride we call "PUMPKIN SPICE ALL THE THINGS!" with this decadent, pumpkin-y pumpkin spice body lotion. You'll smell a bit like a pie and your skin will be soft and happy—I think you'll like it. Don't blame me if...

Powdered Acidic Hair Rinse

When I went to Costa Rica for a week in 2014 I thought I could get away with skipping my apple cider vinegar rinses for a week. Oooooh boy, was I wrong. An acidic rinse works to smooth the shaft of the hair back down after basic shampoo opens everything up. My hair...

London Fog Lip Balm

I am quite smitten with this glossy, fragrant London Fog Lip Balm. Inspired by the lovely latte made with Earl Grey tea, steamed milk, and vanilla syrup, it conjures up memories of misty days wandering cobblestone lined streets with a woolen jacket and a chunky scarf....

Pink Rose Clay Bar

After falling madly in love with my Everyday French Green Clay Bar I decided I needed more of them. Clay bars are downright fantastic for daily light clay use and they're far more travel friendly than a baggie of mysterious looking powder (especially if you're...
