Grilled Black Bean & Corn Calzone

As far as easy meals go, this one might just strike the perfect balance between easy, versatile, quick, and delicious. If you’ve got the ingredients on hand it comes together about as quickly as a sandwich, and then just requires some unsupervised grilling time.

Lemon Meringue Whipped Soap

This luxurious lemon meringue whipped soap takes inspiration from one of my favourite desserts—lemon meringue pie. With its bright lemony scent, faint yellow hue, and decadent whipped texture, it’s lovely in a wee dish by your sink for hand washing and impressing guests.

Pooch ‘Poo (Dog Shampoo)

I remember trips to the cottage as a kid with Brin, our first family dog. Like Tobyn, he was a Bernese Mountain Dog, complete with a heavy black coat of beautiful fur. He wasn’t much for swimming, but he enjoyed wading about near shore, lapping at the water and cooling down. And every year, without fail, he would start to smell of warm vomit mixed with expired bleu cheese after a few days of these wading escapades mixed with hot weather. It was truly wretched, made worse only by the knowledge that we had another 18 hour car trip across the prairies ahead of us, and we would be trapped with our affectionate and furry source of wretched olfactory sin for every minute of it.

Spicy Arugula, Tomato, and Mozarella Grilled Pizza

Summer hits, I want pizza, and I want in on the BBQ. It’s inevitable, and I am totally ok with that. This pizza was born out of warm-weather induced necessity after a trip to my favourite fruit & veg stand. I had fresh BC arugula, a new (used) KitchenAid stand mixer to test out, and some beautiful squishy pizza mozzarella.

New York City

As a lover of cities, Broadway, and chocolate chip cookies I have long wanted to visit New York City, and last month I finally did. I went with my mother, and we had a blast. We walked a lot, enjoyed some fantastic food, and just enjoyed being a part of such an alive, teeming city.

Broccoli & Boursin Salad

‘Tis the season for New Years Resolutions. For many that means finding new recipes for food that will support their new, über-healthy diet. One of the biggest downfalls of a new diet is falling back into delicious old habits, which is so easy to do when everything new you’re eating tastes awful. That’s where this awesome broccoli salad comes in. It’s healthy, it’s delicious, and it’s easily made with ingredients that are in season in the dead of a Canadian winter.
