Healing Bee Propolis Cream

Bee propolis is a really amazing substance. In its raw form it looks like clods of dirt, and smells something like the air just before it rains. Made from essential oils, resins, saps, and the odd bit of dry grass, it is a powerful antibacterial and antiseptic healing ingredient, making it perfect for a starring role in this lotion. As with everything bees make, each hive produces different propolis. It’s assembled from the trees and flowers that the bees visit on their pollen and nectar rounds, and its composition understandably varies by what’s available near the hive.

Whipped Shea Butter Body Meringue

I am so thrilled with this new invention of mine. It’s unbelievably light and fluffy, with a decadent texture that will make your friends gasp in awe when they feel how light and soft it is. I call it body meringue because of its texture and how it forms wonderful soft, glossy peaks, just like a meringue does.

Smokey Corn, Black Bean, & Honey Salsa

I’m not usually a salsa person. It’s not that I have anything against a delicious combination of tomatoes, onions, and other goodies, it’s just that they’re often not that… delicious. Store bought salsas are often runny, heavy with the vinegar, and straight-up boring. But this salsa… no. This salsa was a delicious revelation.

Cocoa Peppermint Whipped Cream Soap

I’ve promised you a whipped soap recipe that doesn’t use stearic acid to stabilize it, and here it is. This one uses raw cocoa butter, imparting a delicious chocolatey scent along the way. It’s still wonderfully light and airy, but it does end up with a slightly different texture than whipped soap stabilized with stearic acid—more marshmallowy than totally light and fluffy.

Veggie Overload Panini

When Craig and I were in Costa Rica we took a day to quad across to peninsula and explore. After bumping along kilometers of rolling, bumpy rainforest roads and walking out across the tide flats to a small island on a cemetery we stopped for lunch at a rather unassuming looking bakery. I ordered one of the few vegetarian options—a veggie pita. The English translation of the description was a bit lackluster (basically a long list of veg plus a pita) and my hopes weren’t that high, but then it arrived. And… oh my.

Spicy Arugula, Tomato, and Mozarella Grilled Pizza

Summer hits, I want pizza, and I want in on the BBQ. It’s inevitable, and I am totally ok with that. This pizza was born out of warm-weather induced necessity after a trip to my favourite fruit & veg stand. I had fresh BC arugula, a new (used) KitchenAid stand mixer to test out, and some beautiful squishy pizza mozzarella.
