Tahira, I layer my products on my curls, because just one products doesn’t seem to cut it! My routines are as follows, due to changing dew points, which affect my wavy curls. My hair is also fine texture, normal porosity, and medium density, all which plays into how much product I can use on my hair. If you have different textures, porosity, and density, you will have to play with the amount of product to find your balance.

Dew points around 40’s or lower… co wash with Curl Junkie Daily Fix, step out of shower with wringing wet hair, emulsify together in my hands a pea sized amount of leave in conditioner (As I Am, Curls Blueberry Bliss, KCKT, Jane Carter all work well for me) and a pea sized amount of curl enhancing cream (Shea Moisture Smoothie is DA BOMB!), work through hair first by using the praying hands method then finger combing upside down, scrunch hair, scrunch in two pumps of Camille Rose Curl Maker, scrunch in about a quarter to half dollar sized amount of gel (Herbal Essence Totally Twisted gel emulsified with a pea sized amount of Biosilk’s Rock Hard Gelee OR Deva Curl’s Arc Angel or Ultra Hold Gel), plop for 10-15 minutes, take down plop and scrunch dry upside down with a microfiber towel, scrunch in three fingertips of Kinky Curly Curling Custard, flip head over and try to give Roots a bit of lift with a bit more of the KCCC, diffuse until crunchy then let hair air dry the rest of the way. When hair is completely dry, I shuffle my scalp by going underneath my hair and gently shaking, then scrunch out the crunch until I can’t feel it anymore.

Dew points in the 50’s or higher… co-wash with Biolage co-wash for curly hair, on wringing wet hair smooth in As I Am Curling Jelly, flip head over and finger comb then scrunch, scrunch in Deva Curl’s Arc Angel or other gels mentioned above, plop, scrunch out rest of water with microfiber towel, scrunch in KCCC, flip head upright, do root lift thing, diffuse a bit or just let air dry. When completely dry shuffle Roots then SOTC.

It took me a while to figure out what to do, in what order, and what products worked the best for me. It’s all a guessing game until you get in there and start trying stuff out. I watch YouTube videos and read blogs, seeing what other fine wavy haired girls use, but found that what worked for them didn’t always work for me. So, until you try something, you really don’t know what’s going to work for your hair. It’s fun, frustrating, and will turn you into a product junkie! Haha!
