I have some Botanical Extracts that I gotten from New Directions Aromatics. I have an all oil based skincare recipe I would like to use them in. I understand they are soluble in water and alcohol.
But does anyone know if I can heat infuse these powdered extracts in a carrier oil to add to my recipe?
Susan says on her blog that heat will destroy the properties of the extracts, but I have found no other way to get them to incorporate in water except to heat them for a bit in a water bath until they’re melted. I tried the tinctures, as described on the NDA website and they did not incorporate that way. I still have extract powder at the bottom of the tincture. I have not tried infusing into an oil, but I’m of the opinion “what have you got to lose”? I will never buy the powdered extracts from NDA again. They suck! It’s liquid extracts for me from now on!
You'll need to upload them to a free image hosting service first—Imgur (http://imgur.com/) is great and doesn't require you to sign up for an account. Simply click " New Post" at the top of the page, drag your images into the window that pops up, and the images will automatically upload. From there you can hover the images and copy the URL that appears; simply paste that URL into your post on a new line and the image will appear automatically when you post!
