So, how relevant are expiration dates on the ingredient labels?
We all know oils and butters have a certain shelf life and it’s relatively easy to recognize when they’ve oxidized. But what about other stuff?
I just noticed that some of the ingredients i got a couple weeks ago, will most likely not get used up before they expire according to the label. Those are:

    -SLeS (expires in 7-2018)
    -Cocamidopropyl Betaine (expires in 5-2018)
    -SCI (expires in 12-2018)

preservative Microcare db (cosgard) (Benzyl Alcohol (and) dehydroacetic acid) (expires in 6-2018)
    Allantoin (expires in 10-2018)
    Glycerin (expires in 8-2018)

I am so frustrated at the supplier, especially about the surfactants and the preservative. And good luck using half a kilo of glycerine till august! (although i could put it in cp soap i guess)
    What are your thoughts?
Can any of these be used past their expiration date?
What happens to the products you make with these?
Does that mean if i make a lotion, it goes bad along with the preservative?
If i make a body wash, will it expire in May, along with the cocobetaine?

Honestly, I don’t put much stock in expiration dates for most ingredients. There are a few things like hydrolyzed proteins, that, when past their expiration date, are more irritating to my skin so I’ll chuck them. Other than that, I’ve not noticed any difference in performance or skin feel of ingredients like glycerin, surfactants, emulsifiers, etc… Obviously, if it smells “off” or changes color, discard immediately.

Thanks Benlinda! I haven’t had the problem of getting items that expire soon with my other supplier, but that one doesn’t carry most of the things i got from this one. He even had expired extracts and hydrosols that would expire within the month on a 50% sale, but at least he stated that they expired/will expire in the item description so i steered clear
