ParticipantConnie, I’m wondering if you did an overnight plop with wet hair, maybe a bit of curl cream or gel, what would your curls would look like? You have pretty hair, very shiny and healthy! I’m at a loss on the low porosity thing. I’ve heard other low porosity curlies complain, like you, that products just “sit” on their hair. I was just curious if product was put on wet hair, plopped overnight, would it absorb then??

ParticipantWell, I made the hair pudding 🙂 I will try this when I have 2 days that I don’t have to be seen, rofl…..after the protein treatment, I want to be able to hide and rectify things if I have to:)

ParticipantAwesome! Fabulous! That’s great to hear you’re starting to get some positive return on the hair.

ParticipantThat’s great! Using the hair pudding is pretty much the equivalent of leaving conditioner in the hair. The fact that it worked well means that your hair was lacking moisture. Try one day with the pudding + gel and see how it goes. Idk if you do this already, but for me, I need to apply products until it gives that squishy sound + silky slippery feeling when scrunching when wet. That’s how I know I have enough. The sound of the scrunch changes 😂
After applying your products, scrunch a lot to help form the curl a bit.

Participanthmmm, I will give that a go. I find if I apply that much product it just weighs my hair down and it looks greasy and limp, I’m going to try mixing the pudding and the gel though, I tried it with mousse and I will see what today brings. Eyeing up more of MAries serums etc for fun too 😀

ParticipantConnie, are you applying products on soaking wet hair? A lot of curlies do this in the shower. You can find videos on YouTube on the Squish to Condish method. It does take some practice, though. I’d try this with the hair pudding then apply a little gel and squish that in, then plop for a while to let it all soak in. When you take it down, use a microfiber towel to scrunch your hair until the towel no longer shows moisture when you scrunch it in your hair. That’s what I do and I think it cuts down on some of the air drying time.
Joyful is right on the squishing sound. It’s a silky, seaweed-y feeling when your hair is properly moisturized. You can also go by the feel of your hair when applying product too. When I’m squishing in product, I scrunch until my hair no longer feels “product-y”. I know that my hair has absorbed the conditioner/cream/gel and then I plop. If I still feel product in my hair, I either have put too much on or haven’t scrunched enough to get it into my hair. I also use the Scrunch and Pump method, I think it’s called. I scrunch up, then squeeze the hair 7-8 times, then release the scrunch. I do this all over after I apply gel until all the gel is into my hair.

ParticipantOn damp hair Belinda! I am going to try it on wet hair in the shower next. I’m in LOVE with what happened this go. I tried lotion (pudding) and when I washed I put more on with a mousse, squinching it in and let it dry just hanging as I was busy. This morning I sprayed it with a water/conditioning balm combo and BOING! Not sticky, not stringy or hard, but soft loose ringlets and waves. I’m sure it can be curlier but this is the first it hasn’t been kind of stringy thin curls, but rather touchable stuff 🙂 Thanks for the advice, I’m trying one thing at a time to see what works…I’m betting that a squish to condish in the shower will be a good thing

ParticipantHow awesome! It’s working! I’m learning that in this time of year, me and the argan and deep conditioning are every three days or my scalp hates me. However, my hair is beginning to get springy. Twin thinks I’ll end up curling. 😱

ParticipantI’m excited you’re finding some things that work Connie! It does get frustrating, the discovery part, but when you get to the point of knowing what works and how to best style it and the results are fairly consistent (because, lets face it, curly hair is not consistent!), it’s a real HALLELUJAH moment!

ParticipantSo, I’ve started to realize, my hair is purging. I used to be able to do 3 days between shampoos. Right now, it’s two. Well more like shampoo, conditioner- one day refresh, then next day cowash, then refresh, then cowash, then the next day- omg I need to shampoo my hair!
Oh, and let me explain the addictive scent of the SheaMoisture product I’m using. If I could bottle it and just poof it on as a scent, I would. And I’m a citrus girl. Yeah.

ParticipantYes, purging takes about 6 weeks. It took me 8. I was using a lot of silicone products and washing my hair just about every day, with sulfates of course!
It’s looking curlier Twin! You’re using the SM fruit complex stuff, right? Or something like that? It’s in a purple-y pink container? That stuff smells so yum! And bees like that scent too, just sayin’…..I have done the “bee dance”, which includes screaming and running while swinging your arms wildly about, more often than I can tell you because they are drawn to the yummy smells in my hair. I LOATHE insects!!😱

ParticipantYes, the purple pink one! It’s beautiful. No 🐝 yet. But give it time. Lol
Purging is a pain! I want that recorded. Purging is annoying too. Bad purging! That is all.

ParticipantYes, purging is a big pain in the patootie!! You will never use products like that with any regularity once you get rid of them in your hair. I do use the occasional sulfate wash when doing a PT/DT, but other than that, they are not allowed near my hair!
As a side note, bought and used the Eco Krystal styling gel today. Got a huge tub at Sally’s for ~$6. That stuff is thick and sticky and weird (these are very technical terms, I know), and I think I used a bit too much, but I had SPIRALS today! My waves were spiral curls!! Woah!!

ParticipantI was looking at that stuff, but I was like…how goopy are we talking here? Lmao. See, science terms. 😁
So Curlmart is doing 20% off and I has coupon. Thus, hello SheaMoisture matching gel, the Jane Carter spray….etc. yeah. I was good this time! I didn’t overspend. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
