I thought I would start this thread for everyone to post lipstick colours they’ve made either from the book or created themselves with swatches so that we can recreate them without having to do a ton of trial and error.March 18, 2017 at 1:11 pm #21118
Cyn, I finally had the time to make one purple lip colour that I think you will like. Let me know if you try it. Here is the recipe:
5g long-wear lipstick base (from the book)
1/16 tsp titanium dioxide
1/4 tsp manganese violet
1/8 tsp carmine
I’ve tried taking a picture on my lips and hand, but my phone makes it appear more pink than it is.
It’s more purple than it shows up on my hand on camera. It’s pretty much like it looks in the first picture in the container.March 19, 2017 at 2:34 pm #21123
Now that it has set for a day, I retested it, and it gives a somewhat sheer, “stained your lips with purpley berries” look. It’s not sheer, but not completely opaque. As in, you can still tell their is a bit of lip behind the lipstick. I will remake one with more pigments to make it more opaque. I usually put more pigments than Marie does in her book, because it makes it more matte and opaque, which I want.
I do like this colour though.March 19, 2017 at 9:28 pm #21144
I love that color Joyful! That’s one I will make, definitely, when I get the manganese violet!! Beautiful!!March 19, 2017 at 9:34 pm #21146
Thank you! Let me know what you think once you do.
When I have the time, I will make more blends amd post them. I cam take requests, but it might take a while before I can get to it.March 19, 2017 at 9:38 pm #21149
Not a problem! I’m generally a “I’ll get around to it eventually” kind of girl, so no rush at all on this end. Thanks for taking requests! You’re so sweet to offer!😀March 21, 2017 at 9:52 pm #21194March 21, 2017 at 9:54 pm #21195
Violet lip paint
1 lip paint base
1/4 tsp manganese violet
1/32 tsp titanium dioxideMarch 21, 2017 at 10:06 pm #21198
You have the prettiest shaped lips Joyful! Flaunt those pretty lips, girl, with those beautiful colors you create!
I need to try and make some lippies. I’m stuck on making soap right now, though. That and lotion. I’m sure I will gravitate towards makeup soon. I noticed my powder base is running low, so that will get me into making makeup again. Until I notice I’m running out of something else, then my brain will obsess about making that item. It’s a never-ending cycle…..haha! I guess you could call it Crafter’s ADHD.😂😂March 21, 2017 at 10:20 pm #21199
Thank you 😊 I never wore any lipstick until a year ago, and now I’m obsessed. I must have almost 20 colours by now.
I usually only make lotion because I have to, I prefer making makeup.
I recently made a foundation for my grandmother, and she loves it. She’s always worn foundation that was too yellow (because that’s what the lady at the makeup counter told her to wear), and now she has one that matches perfectly. She’s impressed by how little you need to use. I made one for me too (mixing shade Marie + Jess), and although it looks nice, I don’t normally use any, but I might a bit under my eyes. I’ve always had purpley veins that show through, so it looks darker. Everyone always says you it’s not really noticeable, but I’ve always been annoyed by it, lol.
Crafter’s obsession is definitely real. I keep wanting to make more colours, more products, even though I’ll never be able to go through it allMarch 22, 2017 at 5:30 am #21210CynnaraParticipant
Ha! That’s when you make more for gifts! That way you indulge the colours and scents without feeling deprived. 😁 Awesome colours. Gorgeous and then some. I bet there’d be a way to make a nude with a hint of berry. *bounces* This is what gets me in trouble. LolMarch 22, 2017 at 10:50 am #21212
Except I would want to try the colour, so I will still have to make one for me (or just use what is left after pouring).
Cyn, can you find pictures on lips of what you want? I find it kinda hard to colour match to the picture you had linked to (on another thread) that showed the lip tubes. It’s easier when I can see it on the lips, because it never looks like the tube on the lips.March 22, 2017 at 10:54 am #21213
Btw, I don’t know why, but when I tried the (peach) LorAnn flavouring, it turned my lipstick much harder… when I normally make the long wear base, it’s kinda creamy, and too soft for a tube, but by adding the flavour oil, it’s now hard enough for a tube…March 22, 2017 at 3:31 pm #21215
Huh, that’s interesting! I wonder why the LorAnn flavor hardened it?? I guess we will have to look at the ingredients….a mystery to solve!
I second that on colors not looking the same on lips vs in the tube. I remember getting a freebie color called Mars once. It was a gawd-awful orange-y looking bronze in the tube, but when you put it on, it was a really pretty berry pinkish color. I don’t know what made me even put it on, but I really liked the color on my lips. So, you just never know.
Joyful , that’s what I’m afraid of….making so many lippies that I’ll never use them all. I can so see that happening!!March 22, 2017 at 5:56 pm #21217CParticipant
I am going to try to upload two pictures of my lipstick shades I have a worked on. They were both attempts at Red Dahlia from the book. Top shade came out more purple. Which ended up being beautiful. Friends love it! In my attempt to still try for a deep classic red, I decided to use less red oxide blue shade and add red oxide red shade which is the second shade you see. It seems more pink than red to me. Should I add more red oxide to get a deeper red? https://i.imgur.com/GzAnzc4.jpg
