    Hey guys,

Just a tip for anyone looking to harness the scent of roses but can’t afford it (like myself) I’ve found that using these can really help compensate for the scent:

    For water-based:
    – Rose water (often found in Lebanese food stores etc.)

    For oil-based:
    – Rose wax (fairly cheap and super soft, not at all waxy), very sweet-smelling and less floral
    – Bulgarian lavender + geranium EOs, very floral and slightly citrussy
    – Even better if you combine the rose wax with the EO blend (and then top it off with cardamom)

Also, if you like rose + neroli, Marie just posted about how Orange Blossom water (also in Lebanese food stores a lot) smells a lot like neroli. So just mix the two for the ultimate in fine fragrance!

Ahhh! Rose wax! I want some! I may have to try a couple of these combos. I like the sound of the Rose wax/EO blend with cardamom. That just sounds like it would smell so good!

Ugh it’s AMAZING I just made a lotion with it and I can’t stop sniffing myself…

Another blend I love is very similar but just different enough to be noticable and I call it my relpacement Violet scent:

    – French lavender (not bulgarian) + geranium + benzoin

Much more floral rather than citrussy but the sweetness comes from benzoin

And rose wax is amazing because it’s super fragrant in tiny amounts — I don’t even use a full gram of it for lotions and I can still smell it. And cheap!

Oh that sounds good too! I wonder what I could sub for French lavender? I’m allergic to it which sucks because I love the smell!! I haven’t tried the Bulgarian lavender but want to and see if I can tolerate it. I’m also dying to get some floral waxes. I had no idea there were so many “flavors”!! I like more subtle scenting in my lotions because too much sets off the allergies, so I’m thinking floral waxes may be perfect, especially since you use so little.

Marie finally convinced me to try rose scented stuff a while back. And I fell head over heals in love. I’m honestly loving it straight up with no other scent. Don’t get me wrong, I love rose and benzoin, but rose on its own is nice!

    Lotion: 100g
    I like
    1g rose wax+ 4 blobs benzoin+ 1 drop clove
1g rose wax+ 5 drops blood orange essential oil
1g rose wax I find my perfume compliments this scent like crazy!

I love the scent of roses now! I found that not all Rose waxes are the same, the greenish wax is my favourite!!!

Those sound heavenly too! I really need some floral waxes!! The rose, benzoin, clove combo sounds spicy good! When I use jasmine oil, I’ll put a drop or two of clove in because it makes the lotion smell much more exotic, so I would thing the rose, benzoin, clove would be similarly exotic.

So need to start a new thread for waxes.

Psssst! Jasmine wax. Cheaper. Longer lasting. And a more oomph scent I’ve found. In lotions at 1g/100g it’s nice and very very potent on its own but very very exotic when mixed with a few drops of orange essential oil and one drop of clove.

And double pssst! Jasmine+neroli+orange to die for! And then triple pssst! Jasmine+cardamom+orange.

I would kill for some bayberry wax. So want it!

I’ve not bought any waxes and now I have a list!! Orange wax, rose wax, jasmine wax…. All these combos you’re telling me about sound sooooooo good! I’ll be making spring/summer lotions in the next month or two and I will be trying all these scent combos!! Mmmmmmmm!

Isn’t bayberry wax more of a pine-y type smell? I was thinking that’s what I’d read once. Not as big a fan of the fir smells in a body lotion. Christmas trees, candles, rooms scents….yes, body lotion….not so much.

Orange wax is amazing!!! It’s fantastic! BUT be warned. It is staining (worse than sea buckthorn fruit oil) and it is a UV magnet.

I love woodsy outdoorsy scents for lotions and hair stuff. And other citrusy and floral and and and and. Bayberry is a very Christmassy scent, pine, outsoords, the candle I had made me think of juniper berries. I really want the bayberry wax to make a solid perfum bar!

I have the jasmine and the rose wax waiting to be used 🙂 Love the jasmine. We had a tree for years and it was intoxicating. I’m waiting for the perfect recipe, sigh. I have a yen for bayberry wax too, but where can you get it? It would work for the manly scents I’m looking for.
Thanks for the scent combo ideas!! tucking those away in my notebook.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or if it’s te type of jasmine (is there more than one?) but I have a soap that I love everything about (made with cocoa butter, coconut oil, shea butter, and grapeseed oil) that I got for Christmas and it’s made with rosewater and jasmine EO but to me it sometimes smells like a cheap, over-perfumed bathroom spray. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

jasmine is powerful and the fragrant oil isn’t the same as the essential oil at all, it might have been made with that. A little goes a long, long way

I’ve seen bayberry wax at Safire Blue, Amazon, and From Nature With Love.

I have no idea where you’d get it in China, Barb!

Really? From Nature With Love carries bayberry wax? Do you happen to have a link? I’ve a Taobao seller who buys items from FNWL and I might be able to convince them to order me a bunch.

Mini, you were asking about Jasmine EO. I’m not sure about different varieties, but I do know there are different prices. Maybe the soap you got was made with a cheaper variety?
