Cha-Ching. My least favourite word. Lmao. Unless I’m doing the WSP run. *whispers “sale”*

I need to stop looking at lotioncrafter. I found ANOTHER preneutralized toy for gels, etc. I want now!

HEYya Belinda! I used the curl activator from AG not a crème….crème is bad! My hair looks stringy and greasy by day 2, its not that its just super moisturized….it looks dirty. I had got to the point somewhere along the line where it would feel heavy and oily but looked good, but I have lost that. Right now I am searching for a holding product that won’t weigh my hair down. Spray gel might do it. I sadly don’t have access to curl junkie without hefty shipping and no target either. The local pharmacy doesn’t carry much and Walmart would be the next big place to look…its 2 hours away :). So I look, but slowly. I am going to try the curl activator and a gel next….

Connie, this is what my hair looks like 2nd day with no styling whatsoever. I’ve just taken it down from my pineapple and shook it at the roots. My curls fall out too and start to look stringier, especially in the back. To “reactivate” the curl, I smooth a tiny bit of curl cream and/or leave in conditioner over my hair with praying hands. Then I wet my hands from the sink and scrunch my hair, rewetting my hands as necessary until my hair is fairly saturated. Then I scrunch in a bit of gel for hold and let air dry or diffuse to form the gel cast. When it’s dry, I scrunch out the crunch and voila! It’s curled again. Not as well as after I wash it, but good enough. Maybe you can find one of those fancy water bottles with the fine mister spray and use that with spray gel to reactivate your curls again until wash day.

so even though you have gel in from the previous day, you add more? Mine looks like yours except not quite as curled…bout one step less curly if that makes sense. Likely due to no product.

    Thanks, Belinda and Cynnara! 🙂
Belinda, your hair is beautiful! You can definitely see the health of your hair progressing in those pics! Gorgeous!

By the way, has anyone tried Bounce Curl gel?
I see good reviews for their stuff.
They also do some video tutorials on their insta for how to apply, and how to refresh curls.

Ahhhh, I think you may have just revealed to me your problem!! What are the ingredients in the Curl It Up spray?? I’ve looked at Marc Anthony’s products before and I thought they all had silicones in them. I can’t find an ingredient list online, so can you check?

If not, then bummer! I thought I had it figured out!

If so, those silicones are coating your hair and, combined with the low porosity factor, not letting anything in. That’s why you’re having issues with products not penetrating your hair. Since you don’t wash with any sulfates, you have build up on your hair. You will need to strip your hair with a sulfate shampoo to get them off, and then don’t use that spray anymore.

I have no super curlies yet. I am so sad. Only swirls of curls or almost curls. But I hear Connie on the lightweight gel stuff.

Tahira, I’ve been seeing the Bounce Curl stuff a lot lately! Lots of curly girls talking about it. I looked at the ingredient list, and it’s got a polyquaternium in it. My hair does not seem to like those!

Yes, Connie, I add more gel. My hair must eat the stuff or something! Haha! I don’t add very much, but enough to give my curls a little hold until they are dry again.

Thank you Tahira for the compliment!😊 You’re sweet!

okay Belinda…ingredient list (water, alcohol, copolymer, polyquaternium, avocado oil, sheabutter, soybean oil, silk, tocopheryl, panthenol,) This is the first I have used it and I had curls ALL DAY! maybe my hair likes polyquats?

Connie, I’m looking at the ingredient list of all these products your using, and guess what they all contain?? Polyquaterniums! AG, Curl Keeper, and MA Curl spray all have them. So I guess you’re like me, because my hair would get really stringy and frizzy too, worse than usual, from using a styling product with polyquaterniums. Some polyquaterniums act like silicones and coat your hair, so you still may need to strip your hair and then deep condition. Sorry! On The Wavy Library blog, she has a post about polyquaterniums and wavy hair. Her hair doesn’t like polyquaterniums either. She lists which ones are worse than others about coating your hair. I just try to find stylers/gels with no Polyquaterniums, which isn’t easy!

And your hair doesn’t look as bad as you make it sound! I think we tend to judge ourselves a bit more critically than others do. I know I do! I know what you’re talking about with the “stringy” curl thing though. Mine still does that within a couple of days too. It used to be worse when I first started the CG Method. Sometimes, I think that is a fine hair characteristic. Well, I’m guessing that it is. Getting curls to clump together really takes practice too. And, you really need gel. Wavies just don’t have a strong enough curl pattern to not use something to give it some hold. But first we need to get your hair to the point where you can use some product!!
