KeymasterI just made my first ever gel with Ultrez 20, and it is so darn cool! It wobbles and bobbles and is downright FUN 😀 I must get better at sprinkling the powder over the liquid, though—I had to break out my immersion blender to break up the copious amount of gel clods I had after my initial hand mixing. Oops!
Has anyone else played with this fun ingredient? I got mine from Voyageur, but I see NDA has it as well.

ParticipantI haven’t tried it yet, but I do want to. I want to try making hand sanitizing gels that I feel comfortable using before eating if I’m out.
How does it feel on your skin?

KeymasterIt feels like thick water when it’s just a water gel, but there is definitely the potential to load that gel up with so many goodies that it could get sticky. I love how cooling and glide-y it is; I can move it around for ages before it starts to dry. Very cool! I added some vitamin B3 (another new love of mine) and I am schmearing my face with it like a bagel 😝

ParticipantCan’t wait to see what you make with it :). I need to get it and play with the idea of hand gels…..hmmmm…..I can see my friends falling in love with this 🙂

ParticipantBah! I just popped it into Google and I already have it!!! But mine came with a powder and a small little vial of liquid. Must find some time to look!

ParticipantI have not gotten the Ultrez 20 because it has to be neutralized. Since I don’t have a pH meter, I was looking at getting one of the pre-neutralized gel formulators like Sepimax Zen. A gel formulator is definitely on my “want” list, though! One of the first things I want to make with it is an eye gel.
I can’t wait to see what you’re going to create with it Marie! Sounds like you’re having fun with it!
Barb, maybe the small vial that came with it is the neutralizer. That would be my guess.

ParticipantYou know you the neutraliser is at lotioncrafter and chemistrystore.com. *whistles and walks *

ParticipantYes, yes it is Twin! And I found an inexpensive pH meter somewhere, now I can’t remember where, that was around $25-$30. It was for measuring pH in pools, or maybe that was the example given in the description, but it sounded like it would be accurate. The downside was that you would have to calibrate it before each use to make sure it WAS accurate. I have no idea if you have to do that with the $100+ pH meter, so I guess I need to check that out.
I would like to *maybe* start formulating with AHAs and similar ingredients, so maybe buying a pH meter is not too far off in my future. Decisions, decisions….
At the moment, I’m just trying to make things with the stuff I have now! My cabinets are stuffed with ingredients, so I don’t need more (at least that is what I keep telling myself!)! No more, no more, no more!!😂😂

ParticipantLmao, I finally got almost everything in my closet/ craft closet. My room is almost tidy. *shock* I spent most of today sleeping with trying to get over this infection. I hit the limit between insomnia and no sleep where my body said, “Nope, game over, dude.” I’m finally at about 75% of normal.
I may need a ph meter. Though you can work with ph strips, phenothaeline and then slowly ease into the ph meter as time goes on. That way, you’re building on success. 😆

ParticipantSusan says over and over that pH strips are not accurate for working with cosmetic formulation. If you have the pH off even slightly, you could really do your skin some damage or cause yourself pain. I am not into pain, so I will wait until I can get a good pH meter and avoid things that you need one to formulate with until I get one. Be safe out there, my tribe!!

ParticipantHuh. Wonder what scientists think when they used those for years before we got the tech. 😉 I’m just saying as a temp solution, which does help with soaping…it could work. On plus side, I found goodies. 😁

ParticipantI do have the strips but always wonder if I’m using them correctly. Plus, I have difficulty reading them sometimes. Does it look more like this, or this?? Considering all the things that could get into the mix, so to speak, while trying to get whatever it is I’m making onto those strips makes me question how accurate an amateur like myself is in using them. I would feel much more comfortable with a pH meter.

ParticipantMy hubster has a pH meter, which got me all excited, but then his next question was “how accurate do you need it to be?”. Um, pretty darn accurate so I don’t burn my face off!! Face, skin, chemicals…..see how many things can go wrong here?!? His pH meter wasn’t going to cut it!

ParticipantLmao! He was hiding his? How dare him! He probably needs solution for calibration.
I grew up with the strips and used them with the doctor office. To me, they’re second nature. But again, I’m not a financial whiz, so if rely on you. I agree on the ph meter. But I do like my strips for target baselines. Gives me a “I am here. This is not necessarily here I want to be.”
