I put my makeup on 8 hours ago, and I love it, but I can already notice a pending breakout. Vitamin E oil is the only ingredient I can see that doesn’t have a comedogenic rating of zero. Anyone else having an issue? Is there a decent swap? I know it’s used partially as an antioxidant, but can I replace it with more jojoba oil and just plan to replace it sooner?

    Ideas?

Jojoba’s comedogenic rating is a 2. It’s known as a purging oil, eliminating all toxins from your skin. Vitamin E is a 2 on the comedogenic scale also. I’m making my second batch of foundation makeup, and I swapped argan for the jojoba, because my skin doesn’t need any help breaking out. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Thanks! I didn’t realize jojoba was ranked the same as Vitamin E oil.

I love argan oil, I hope it’s an ok swap even though it’s so much thinner than jojoba and E.

    Huh.

I made myself and a friend a pot of the Winter Solstice Cream, and I found it a smidge too heavy for me so passed it off to the friend. She’s used it morning and night and noticed a massive breakout. Maybe this is why.

I found the foundation with 20 drops of jojoba and 3 drops of vitamin e too oily (I’m plenty oily on my own, most of the time!) so I thought I’d try argan and reduce the amount of drops for my second batch. I think I used 14 drops argan, 3 drops vitamin e this go round. Have not tested it out yet. I was just very leery of a jojoba purge!

Barb, I would say that your friend was “purging”! I’m sure she thanked you for that!😜

I read, too, that there are two types of E, tocophorol and tocophorol acetate (I think that’s what it was), and there is a lot of conflicting info out there regarding which is better/less comedogenic, etc…

Isn’t purging, good in the long run? Going through a purge phase and continual use of jojoba/Vitamin E wouldn’t that be good in the long run?

Yes, it would be for most people. Unless you have my skin, then it’s just never-ending breakouts.

Uh oh! Now you guys have me worried! My skins really sensitive. I need a aragon swap but everything my skin likes in tinted. (sea buckthorn, tiger nut, hemp) Maybe camellia seed?

I love camellia seed oil! It’s wicked light! But what about sea buckthorn seed oil? It’s a little tinted but goes on clean. Or moringa?

Well. You might have just listed the only two oils I *don’t* have.

I would think SBT oil would be too yellow-y, unless you cut it with a non-tinted oil. Hmmm….I might actually try that. My skin loves SBT oil. Camellia seed oil might work. I’d say any light oil that works with your skin would be OK.

The argan oil in my latest batch of foundation is working out much better for me. I subbed 14 drops argan instead of 20 jojoba, but I think I could up it a couple more drops and it still not feel as heavy and greasy as the first batch with jojoba did on my face.

What about primrose or even borage?
