ParticipantI would say the “miracle ingredient” is the HA, but I’m cynical like that.
BelindaSK
ParticipantAwesome! I need to remember that!!

ParticipantIt sounds like the lake dye is more potent than the carmine. I’d add more blue next time.

ParticipantGood to know! The gel one sounds like it would adhere better, too, especially to my oily skin. Thanks for the update!

ParticipantDifference in lipstick vs lip paint….for me, they do the same job but the application of said product is different. One is a stick versus one using a brush to apply to lips.
I use highlighter above my blush to highlight my non-existent cheekbones and on my eyelids if the micas are eye safe.
You can use bronzer in place of blush if it is dark enough or your skin is pale. I use bronzer all over my face to give it a bit more color.
I have not made the Top Shelf eye shadows but I’m trying to get back into making makeup. I’ve been busy with life lately and have only been making things out of necessity (meaning I’m running out of stuff! Haha!).
I have no idea if sericite mica is the same as colored micas. I would do a patch test before making anything with it. Also, check out the INCI for sericite vs mica to see if they are the same or similar. That could be a clue. Colored micas are usually a blend of things, so it could be a specific ingredient within the mica you are allergic to.
Hope this info is helpful!

ParticipantFrom what I can gather online, it has to do with the temperature sensitivity of some of the ingredients in the lipstick.

ParticipantI use dimethicone in my fall/spring/winter lotion formulations and it is fantastic! I’ve not found anything else that comes close to soothing and protecting my cranky skin. I, too, am CG so I don’t use any silicones in my hair either.
Recipes I found online using SLS…

ParticipantI have not tried it either, but read it would work well in cosmetic formulations.

ParticipantLush is not known in the cosmetic chemists’ realm for their accuracy to scientific facts when formulating their products. Check out all the posts on the Beauty Brains website about Lush products.

ParticipantYou can easily add a preservative to any recipe you find online (as long as that recipe is scaled to 100%). All you need to know is the usage rate of your preservative. For example, Liquid Germall Plus is used at .5%, so, on a recipe scaled to 100%, you’d subtract .5% water and add your preservative in at the same amount so the recipe stays at 100%.

ParticipantI just saw on Chemists Corner the other day that that crazy popular and extremely expensive La Mer cream costs $10 to make! It sells for $170!! Marketing! You are so right, Suhela! It is a mindf@#%!!

ParticipantI don’t know why I didn’t think of the swap of lemon wax vs orange wax. That’s so logical!! I love the scent of lemon!
BelindaSK
ParticipantI bought rose wax and jasmine wax a while back. Ends up I’m allergic to jasmine (go figure!) and I really don’t care for the scent of the rose wax. But rose hydrosol is YUM!

ParticipantSuhela, I just love what you wrote! Amen, sister!!

ParticipantThanks Colleen! I was thinking of the same article as you posted above from Simple Skincare Science. Lots of great information in there!
