Cynnara, for the primer you made are you referring to this recipe on the blog?

I’m interesting in making something for staying-at-home-not-going-our-days-but-need-something! Lol. Did you do anything different?

I should add, I’m trying to get a vegan red for a friend. Anyway would love to know how you you got this color even if it has Carmine for lipstick for myself. 🙂

Wow, that’s a beautiful color! Were they any of Marie’s lipstick colors blended together? Your color is so bold and bright! Does it have Carmine? I’m really trying to attain a bright red without Carmine and dyes/lakes. I know it’s a long shot, but I’m determined lol. I will keep you posted if I gain any progress. Thanks for sharing your color!

Thank you Joyful. I had a feeling it was going to be trial and error…I will start with 1/64 TD and hope it opacifies without driving the color too light!

I mixed two pigments together and came up with a color I want to turn into lipstick…BUT, I forgot to add the Titanium Dioxide while formulating the color. Sigh. How much TD should I add for one lipstick and what do I do since it will lighten my color? Just keep adding more pigment until I get back where I was?
Edited to add: I’ve been doing about 10/16 tsp of pigment / lipstick (TD not included).
    Thanks!

    Belinda,
I’d love to know which color bronzer you made and like. I am a Jess with yellow added!

Hi Kathym, I know the exact feeling…my face will sweat and when I’m wearing the makeup my face gets prickly feeling and I’m tempted to rub it for relief. I did some research- Susan at swiftcraftymonkey blog mentions that zinc oxide can help with that feeling. It’s already in the base, but next time I make the mineral makeup I plan to experiment with just a bit more zinc oxide. I hope that helps! Here is the link:

Me again:). I have two different color lipsticks I made that I like the color of when I wear them both smeared together on my lips. (I know weird right?). Is it as simple as combining the two recipes/pigments? Or should I take roughly 50% of the pigment in each lipstick and work with that? Thanks!

I am trying to create the Red Dahlia out of the book. Has anyone had any luck with it? Mine come out either too purple (from the red blue shade) or more of a Magenta. Looking for more of a deep red. Is it possible with the oxides? Thanks!

Thank you Joyful. I will check out Maybeline Baby Lips to get an idea. So did you start out with 7/16 teaspoon mica per lipstick?

Hi, Has anyone tried making the lipstick base and adding a strongly pigmented mica only? (No iron oxides). There are some micas that I want to try because they are just so pretty, but I don’t know how much to use! 7/16? Or more since mica is not as pigmented as the oxides? And I guess the titanium dioxide would still be used since it adds to the opacity or is there something that opacifies but doesn’t lighten?

This is awesome Cynnara! Thank you so much for this thorough color theory explanation. I am pretty bad when it comes to add this color for that effect type of thing so this will help a great deal. I’m excited to get back to work.
And the under eye correction…I’m going to try your suggestion. So you just mix Orange oxide and blue ultramarine and use them in the concealer recipe? I will also check out those links. I appreciate you sharing!

Hi, so I realized I originally blended Jess with the wrong brown oxide! I used the brown blend instead of the dark brown. Oops!
I made a second batch of Jess and it’s so much better lol! I think it’s a bit too cool of an undertone. I’m more warm. Would I add yellow to warm it? And I’m thinking a few specks of green to cancel out my redness. And just out of curiosity, what does adding red do? I don’t really know what each color does. Is there a cheat sheet somewhere? 😁 Thanks ladies!

Thank you ladies! This gives me the direction I needed. I will try less red.
And oh, which elf brush recommendation do you speak of Belinda? 😀 I’ve heard Marie recommend the kabuki brush. Would love to get more makeup brushes. 😍
