Ok, so for those who still periodically check this forum from time to time. I have made both creamy oil-based eyeliner and gel eyeliner and I much prefer the gel version with xanthan gum. Particularly with the purple recipe, it shows up as purple with the xanthan gum recipe while it shows more muddy red in the oil-based. It is far easier to make too and is more economically friendly, all good things. Anyone on the fence about which one to make, I would suggest gel version over oil.
Has anyone tried making Plum Purple in the creamy eyeliner base? I tried and I don’t know if it’s maybe because I used D&C Red Lake No. 7 instead of carmine, but it came out quite red when I applied it. Like, vampire status. Marie had mentioned that D&C Red Lake No. 7 is a cheaper alternative that can be substituted in most cases. So I don’t know if maybe I just didn’t blend it well enough so that the reds overpowered the blue and prevented it from showing through or… who knows? Anyone experience this?
I am also experiencing mascara issues. The first time I made it the mascara would flake down my face and give raccoon eyes. Then I read the threads about putting it in an airtight jar/container. I made it the second time. This time it doesn’t flake but smudges. I might have to throw in the towel for diy mascara. At least some of the other recipes are still quite stellar!
Anyone have any success stories with the gel eyeliner? Any comparisons on the oil based eyeliner versus gel-based eyeliner?
