Lol Belinda exactly, now that I’ve actually purchased these ingredients myself and see how affordable and accessible they are, I’m like puh-leeze.

Sorry for the delay in responding guys – Yes Penny I agree, I have a feeling most of these companies are not doing lab testing. I’ve been looking for larger companies that have mostly natural products but are probably better equipped for safety, however most of these larger green beauty companies are freaking expensive, especially from Canada! And I 100% agree, mostly natural is the best but in some cases you do need to sacrifice to make sure the product is safe – what’s worse, 1% of an unnatural chemical or however much percentage of mold and bacteria!!

Yes Belinda I’m with you, this is what I’m seeing that is bugging me so much. These green beauty companies are selling these ‘serums’ with all these claims, charging 80$ for 2ml, however I look at the ingredients and it’s largely just affordable kitchen oils with a few drops of lavender essential oil lol. Or one company is selling just mica powder and silica, a tiny amount for like 40$ and using marketing etc to create this buzz around it. Now that I understand ingredients better, I can see through the hype.

I know, it’s very weird! I think often these indie companies are started by women who don’t have any training and just dive in without really understanding the science. I’ve been a huge green beauty advocate for years and now I’m looking at everything differently. Some of these companies are being irresponsible.

Thank you Marie, yes that’s what I did, I melted it with the oil first over direct heat, then added in the waxes etc. The mag stearate/myristate weren’t melting, weren’t melting, were remaining cloudy then quickly kind of clumped up and got gummy. I was watching it pretty closely. Sometimes it works ok and other times I find I get this problem… I’m wondering if there are any other powders that have similar qualities that I could use instead? I find these quite unpredictable. Thanks so much.

I’m having a similar problem.. Just did second batch of the lipstick base and the powders clumped up both times! Grr. I melted everything in a bain-marie first, then put it all in a little pot with the burner on low. I’m wondering if there’s another way to do this because this is frustrating.
