Once the weather takes a turn for the warmer, I tend to turn towards iced tea over hot. I prefer teas that are great unsweetened—I’ve found they tend to be fruitier teas. I like to steep them by pouring boiling water over them, and then letting the entire batch cool in the fridge overnight. Then I wake up in the morning to perfectly steeped iced tea. These are my current favourites for icing. Take my word for it—these teas will give you a great glass of iced tea.

Tropicalia

This tea is part of David’s summer 2012 iced tea line. It’s heavy on pineapple and coconut, which gives the tea an amazing mouth feel in addition to great flavour and a slight sweetness.

Cotswold Fruit Tea

My brilliant friend Whitney sent me this tea from England, and it is divine. As soon as I got the package I knew it was full of something delicious. And I was right. The packet smelled wonderful while it was still sealed. After opening it I was blown away by the juiciest, fruitiest scent I’ve ever encountered when dealing with tea. Wow. The tea is great hot, but when iced, it’s beyond stunning. It’s shockingly delicious. It’s like what Kool-Aid wishes it could be when it grows up. I could drink it by the gallon, but I’m almost out. I’ll have to make a point of stocking up this fall!

Exotica

The coconut in this tea gives it wonderful body. The lemongrass really adds interest, while the cardamom is probably my favourite part.

Green & Fruity

This tea tastes like juice. Apple juice, to be precise. It’s a blend of red and green rooibos, loaded with fruity deliciousness. It’s wonderful hot and cold.

Paradise Found

The first time I had this tea iced I blurted out “oh my god, that’s good!”. So yes, this tea is awesome. It has great flavour, a wonderful balance of sweet and sour, and great body. It would also be awesome with gin.
