These days I am absolutely in love with smokiness in my food. Sea salt, chili peppers, paprika, balsamic vinegar, nuts, whatever—if you can smoke it over some wood chips, I am down. Anyhow, as I was in the process of making sweet potato fries the other day, I was just about to add the seasoned salt when I thought “I can do better”… which was quickly followed by “I have smoked sea salt.” From there it was a done deal.

I started with a variety of my favourite flavours; smokey, of course, then black pepper, garlic, thyme, mustard, and coriander. I looked at a variety of seasoned salt recipes and determined that a 2:1 ratio of salt:seasonings seemed like a good place to start, and I went from there.

The resulting salt adds a beautiful, subtle smokiness to anything, along with a great flavour blend that is oh-so-delicious. It makes amazing sweet potato fries, and is great on roasted veggies, veggie burgers, and pretty much anything else you can imagine.
