Fir, Cypress, and Silk Body Lotion

There’s been a line that reads “fir and cypress body lotion with sweet undertones (vanilla, floral?)” in my long list of project ideas for quite some time. It’s been there for long enough that I’m not entirely certain where the idea came from. Perhaps I tried a hand soap at a restaurant that bragged about fir and cypress on the label. Maybe I just love fir trees and vanilla. Perhaps Siri sneakily added it to the list (she is surprisingly insightful at times). Anyhow, with chilly winter days and Christmastime upon us, a light, hydrating lotion that smells of fir and vanilla sounded like just the thing, and so off the list and into the kitchen that idea went.

How to Make Romantic Massage Oil

I don’t think you need me to tell you that this time of years is at least a little nuts. Between holiday shopping, work commitments, visiting family, and winter weather complicating the simple act of leaving the house (for me, at least), this time of year tends to leave me feeling simultaneously wound up and wrung out. It’s also an odd time for the social calendar—people you haven’ t seen in months pop up, and others come home for a visit. It’s easy to find yourself with far less time for your special somebody in order to make time for everybody else.

That’s definitely been happening to me. Between work, social commitments, book writing, house guests, and other rather mundane things, it’s been really hard to find a time when both my boyfriend and I are free. That leaves me wanting to make sure what time we do spend together is great, but not wanting to complicate things at an already complicated time of year.

Fruitcake Soap

It’s time for our last Christmas soap of the season! This one is inspired by the eternal fruitcake—that lump of sherry soaked brick-like substance that appears on Christmas potluck dessert tables every year (it may be the exact same lump, if we’re being honest). I know few people that admit to liking fruitcake, and even fewer that actually make the stuff. (I expect to hear from everybody who likes and/or makes fruitcake in the comments section to prove me wrong).

Candy Cane Lip Balm

This idea came to me from Sarah over on the East Coast of Canada, who told me about making candy cane lip balm for Christmas last year. The idea stuck, and here we are! What could be better for Christmas gift giving?

Pumpkin Spice Body Lotion

Allow me to continue to earn my keep on the fairground ride we call “PUMPKIN SPICE ALL THE THINGS!” with this decadent, pumpkin-y pumpkin spice body lotion. You’ll smell a bit like a pie and your skin will be soft and happy—I think you’ll like it. Don’t blame me if you have to fend off hordes of PSL (pumpkin spice lattes, for the un-initiated) lovers, though.

Second Summer Soap

The part of the world I currently live in is not known for having amazing summers. Amazing summer days? Sure. But summers on the whole? Reliable beautiful days, all in a row, without question? Not so much. We’re moreso known for “Monsoon June”, mild to severe flooding, crazy car-destroying hail and thunderstorms, and then the odd beautiful day that makes you forget it all. Our reprieve is often September, and sometimes even early October, which can be downright beautiful. That’s what this soap celebrates.
