Welcome to the first 2021 Humblebee & Me holiday project—Frosted Cranberry Christmas Soap! Every year I select two wintery, Christmassy themes and create a collection of highly giftable DIYs around those themes. This year, Frosted Cranberry is one of those themes 😄 I was inspired by the idea of cheery red cranberries coated in a sparkling layer of frost—rich reds, eye-catching shimmers, fresh and juicy scents, and some beautiful cranberry ingredients to boot (I found out after I’d planned out tons of formulations and made this soap that Bath & Body Works has a line of Frosted Cranberry products 😝). As always, we’re starting with the soaps so you’ve got plenty of time to make ’em and let them age before gifting time is upon us!

I am so excited to share this formulation with you guys! Today we are making Sephora-quality long-wearing shimmer cream eyeshadow. You will need three specialty ingredients, but if you love cream eyeshadows, it is absolutely worth it. Just as I did in my book, Make it Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care, we’ll be making a larger batch of base and you can then use that base to create every colour of cream eyeshadow you can imagine 😱 For a bit of a cost teaser—you can make 5g of cream eyeshadow (which is a lot—roughly 250 applications!) for about $1.50USD. Cream eyeshadows are regularly 10–30x that much, and now you can have ’em in every colour your heart desires for a fraction of the price!

Today I’m sharing a Bee-Bettering of one of my most popular formulations on YouTube; my Luminous Summer Body Oil. The original formulation is almost exactly four years old, published on July 6, 2017 (!). I’d made shimmer oils before the 2017 version; the general formulation outline is mostly liquid oils and emollients + enough shimmery mica to get the desired level of shimmer and colour on the skin. It’s definitely a simple enough concept, though there’s plenty of room for refinement.

This beautiful gel cream delivers a double dose of glow—both from boosted skin health and a touch of softly shimmering mica. This formulation includes some of my favourite skincare goodies to deeply hydrate the skin and support barrier function, and a coloured mica (or two) of your choice for some instant, dewy glow. Ooh la la!

This cherry-hued, marzipan-scented lip balm is a lovely bit of summery goodness in a tube! You’ll need just six ingredients to make it, and you can customize the colour—including adjusting the formulation to include more pigment to create a lip tint. You can choose to put the balm in tubes or tins; I prefer tubes so I don’t have to worry about having clean fingers whenever I apply it, but both are great options. Let’s get started!

Today we’re getting sudsy and clean with a seasonably pink Conditioning Valentine’s Hand Wash! I went through a lot of handwash in the beforetimes, and that has easily doubled or tripled in the last year. Lots of handwashing + dry weather is pretty hard on my hands, so I’ve designed this hand wash formulation to get your hands clean without leaving them feeling tight or dry—like a bubbly Valentine for your hands 😄
