Low Tide Soap
I am thoroughly smitten with these pretty, seaside inspired low tide soap bars. With their dusty turquoise tone, deep green seaweed seam, and sparkling coarse salt topping, they’re just beautiful.

When I posted my diaper creme recipe, Melissa commented to tell me about her recipe, which was basically a herbal salve loaded with zinc oxide, and the idea stuck. So, when a coworker’s wife had a squishy little baby girl, I thought it was time to whip up a batch of baby bum balm.

I may have a lavender problem. At last count, I had six different types of lavender essential oil in my cupboard (though in my defense, New Directions had a lavender sale last year). Anyhow, that surplus got me thinking about all the different things I could do with lavender, and soap is always high on my lists.

This carnation coloured Blushing Argan Lip Balm is inspired by Josie Maran’s Argan Lip Treatment. It sounded like a good idea, but the reviews were a little mixed. Some users raved about it—subtle, smoothing, shiny. Others said it was a bit lackluster, from less-than-ideal (though very cute) packaging to a plasticky smell to a grainy texture. Also, it’s $18 for a measly 6.8g (0.23oz) of the stuff. So, I set out to see what I could do.

The first argan oil (USA / Canada) I ever tried was Josie Maran‘s—a friend had got some, and as a gift she gave me the bottle with the last few remaining drops to try out. As I’m sure you can surmise, it was instant love. Anyhow, since then, Josie has really beefed up her line of, err, argan inspired products that bear her name. Some are a bit of a stretch (her magic markers don’t even contain any argan oil (USA / Canada)), but some are pretty cool, containing mostly natural ingredients.

Shine can be a wonderful thing—we love it in jewellery and bathroom faucets, lip gloss and silver. But faces? Less so. Kamila got in touch a few months ago asking for solution for oily skin. She told me she was having to re-apply her make-up halfway through the day and was very frustrated with the entire situation. So, I devised this translucent anti-shine powder, designed to be put under and over make-up, as a touch-up powder through the day.
