Silky Chamomile and Shea Salve

On the face of it, this salve sounds simple. Chamomile, shea, some carnauba wax. Meh. Nothing fancy, right? But… oh. Oh my. It’s so much more than you’d think from looking at the ingredient list. Smokey raw shea butter and silky, nutty macadamia nut oil are infused with chamomile flowers and a hint of bee propolis. Add a bit of glossy carnauba wax and you’ve got a rich, creamy salve that smells incredible and leaves your skin feeling surprisingly silky—there’s no shea butter stickiness or greasiness here. This pretty yellow Silky Chamomile and Shea Salve is so much more than the sum of its parts.

Honey Bee Sheet Face Mask

OK—before I dive into this Honey Bee Sheet Face Mask recipe, I need to warn you guys about something. If you’ve been following me for a while, by now you are used to my mask recipes coming with a few goofy-yet-cute selfies of me with pasty goo all over my face. This is not one of those recipes. Oh sure, I took the selfies… but they are neither goofy nor cute. They are more like horror-movie-set-in-a-spa, is-she-going-to-eat-my-face kind of… not cute. Pretty much flat out terrifying. And this is because this is a sheet mask. And there is a reason sheet masks do not make it into spa promo photography. But I love you guys, and wanted to give these things a try, so here we are. You’re welcome/I’m sorry.

Honey Bee Face Mask

Spring has sprung here in Calgary! We’ve got blooming tulips, budding roses, leafy trees, green grass, and lovely bumbling bees again, and all of this makes me unbelievably happy. In honour of our recently returned bumbling bee friends I whipped up this silky honey bee face mask on a sunny spring day. It’s loaded with bee goodness and is easily made with a handful of ingredients you probably already have. Woo!

Egyptian Magic Liquid Soap

This quick-to-assemble Egyptian Magic liquid soap mixes all the best parts of Egyptian Magic with a gentle liquid soap base to make for a bee-riffic honey kissed hand soap. Egyptian Magic is made from just six ingredients—olive oil, beeswax, pollen, honey, propolis, and royal jelly. In my DIY version I make the royal jelly optional for accessibility’s sake, dropping that number to five.

Healing Bee Propolis Cream

Bee propolis is a really amazing substance. In its raw form it looks like clods of dirt, and smells something like the air just before it rains. Made from essential oils, resins, saps, and the odd bit of dry grass, it is a powerful antibacterial and antiseptic healing ingredient, making it perfect for a starring role in this lotion. As with everything bees make, each hive produces different propolis. It’s assembled from the trees and flowers that the bees visit on their pollen and nectar rounds, and its composition understandably varies by what’s available near the hive.
