So I have oxides and a few pigments. They’re interesting. But they’re not as awesome looking as mica. Yes, I know oxides and pigments are more intense, but the shimmer and shine call to me.

What are your favourite colours in either type. What are your must haves?

My favorites are micas. So easy to blend in soap. Favorite colors are pinks, reds, blues, and greens.

Slightly off topic, but if you make CP soap, watch some of Clyde Yoshida of Vibrant Soaps’s videos on YouTube. He’s also an artist so he does a little color tutorial before getting into the making of the soap. I find it interesting how he walks you through his inspiration, the scent, and how he comes up with the color & design of his soaps.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am for blogs and YouTube!😀 I would be hobby-less! Haha

See, that’s why I’m so grateful for Marie. I’ve been wanting to make soap for years, but I’ve been chicken. Last year, I finally made melt and pour and had a blast. Then watching Marie, Soap Queen and Ariadne Arsenault, I’m ready to make cold process soap. I’ll put him on my list. Inspiration helps me to understand the process.

I have a thing for purples and teals and silvers. Then I saw bronze mica. OMG. Do you know how bad I need to make swirlies of colours? Need! So pretty with shimmery goodness. I think I’m going to have a mica problem. Sigh. This is like my essential oil issue. I’m going to need to work overtime to afford my habit.

Micas, like essential oils, are an expensive habit! You really have to read everything, comments included. Some morph, some fade to nothingness, some explode…OK, no, not the last one, but they can be tricky in CP. I really tried to buy micas that would work both in CP soap and cosmetics. And find a source that sold in jars, not bags. Bags are cheaper to ship, but it is a big pain in the patootie to transfer powders to jars. Ask me about the red lake I got all over my kitchen counter…. Also dropped a fuchsia colored liquid dye on my tile floor once. I’m really clumsy, but getting really good at cleaning up DIY messes!

Purple, teal, and silver…that is a beautiful color combo! Think about it…pretty swirled soap….you can do it!!!

See, I knew it! Jars are awesome, bags are pffft. I’d pay extra to get jars. Seriously it’s another container I won’t need to buy that way.

Omg, liquid dye?! Tell me it’s removable. You’re scaring me from liquids. I’ve already been poo pooing the morph and fade ones, there are a lot of them. I’m very disappointed about that! I demand double duty here.

I do tons of research, then I pounce. Lol

Yes, it was removable, thank goodness!! Liquid dyes, easy for soaping but I don’t really use them as much as micas, for whatever reason.

Mad Oils, Nurture Soap, and Wholesale Supplies Plus all sell in jars. Brambleberry sells in jars for larger quantities but for smaller amounts, bags.

Sign up at Great Cakes Soapworks (Amy Warden) for awesome soap inspiration. She has a contest every month, using new and different techniques, and posts all the entries on her website for you to see. Some entries come with YouTube videos so you can see how to do the techniques. Swoon! Another good one to follow is Modern Soapmaking. She talks a lot about soaping as a business, but also posts recipes and tips too.

I’m the same way when starting something new. I research ad nauseum, then go wild!

I can see me now with my cleaning spray. Lol. It would not be pretty. Lol. It’d be the day I’d wear white. The horror is just killing me thinking on it. Lol

Do you like the liquid colours for anything in particular? I know most people really seem to use the straight mica and oxides as is. But I’m wondering if the liquid version would be handier in certain instances. I’m curious now.

I bought them because they seemed easier for CP soap, which I think is true, but I rarely use them. I like the micas better because there are endless colors to choose from. And they’re so shiny and pretty! Haha

I about had a stroke when I dropped that bottle of dye! And fuchsia! Why did it have to be fuchsia?!? There was lots of frantic cleaning, hoping it wouldn’t stain the light gray, almost white colored tile in my kitchen.😱😱😱 There was a faint pinkish stain but I can’t see it anymore.

See! That would be me. 😱Just kill me now. It would splash everywhere I can’t reach. I’m about convinced never to buy them. Omg the horror I’m imagining. 😫
