ParticipantAwesome Zil! I’m lucky that jojoba works well with me. I’m iffy about argan. That’s why I made the liquid foundation with jojoba instead. So creamy and works well as a concealer too.
That reminds me…I have painter boxes to fill. 😁 Concealer corrector with regular will help lots.

ParticipantCamellia oil! I love camellia oil! It goes on feather light on my skin. I tried to use it as my oil to mix the powder for foundation and, well, my face looked like it had makeup on. For about half an hour. I don’t know what happened, but when I looked at my face again, it looked like my skin had absorbed the foundation.
Ah, how I love these camellia oil! I wonder if rice bran oil would work?

ParticipantOh I definitely have a large amount of rice bran oil to use up so I’ll have to try. I bought two bottles by accident and only had some small recipe to use it in

ParticipantPassst! Use it in soaps! 5%. It’s brilliant!
Lots of lotions here in China have rice bran oil especially for mature skin. Ladies swear by rice bran oil and camellia oil. I do really like rice bran oil in my lotions! But, there are so many oils to play with…. how to choose!

ParticipantI like the rice bran oil in soaps and lotions too! Camellia oil I tried, but was just OK. Nothing that really said WOW. It’s funny how one thing works for one person, but not at all for another. That is what makes this hobby so practical. You get to customize for your own individual needs without waiting for some manufacturer to come up with it!

ParticipantSo i definitely made Jess a second time and got a totally different color. Now I am trying to figure out what i did differently. I normally take notes but since I followed the book directly I figured I didn’t need to. Guess i need to do a third try!

ParticipantLol Zil. I have done that. Then I started the note function on my IPad. Otherwise I end up with blush, not foundation. Lmao.

ParticipantI wonder if the color turned out different due to how you filled your teaspoons? I’ll admit, I treated the micas how I would flour in a cake recipe. Just scooped it out, tapped it level on the side of the jar, and dumped into the coffee grinder. I remember watching Marie tap the teaspoon with a knife or something, then level it off perfectly flat. I did not do that. So, I guess I, too, could come up with a totally different color since I am not very precise. I didn’t really think of that. I did write everything down, but since I’ve only made two batches, there wasn’t a whole lot of notes. And those are basically pieces of paper stuck in Marie’s book.

ParticipantZil, I don’t know if you’ve tried the argan oil sub or not yet, but I use it to replace jojoba inn everything. I’ve only tried jojoba once many many years ago, so I can’t rememeber how it was, but from what I’ve read, both absorb quickly and should give a fairly dry-touch, which argan oil does.

ParticipantI used the argan in my powder base and it’s working well. I like it.

ParticipantHow can you offset the titanium dioxide if you have too much in your powder?
April 4, 2017 at 2:22 pm #21555Joyful
ParticipantSimplyShe, is your issue that the powder is too light, or that there is too much coverage? If it’s too light, add more of the rest of the pigments, if it’s too much coverage, then you’ll need to add more of the rest of the base.

ParticipantI also got too white of an application. here is what I did. I made the base then looked at the Jess formula and added that to my base. Was I not supposed to use all the base?
