ParticipantFacebook, Twitter and even Marie’s blog and YouTube I cannot get in China without a VPN. They aren’t really all that used here either so don’t really worry all that much as we have WeChat. Which is fantastic! I posted the last picture to the envy of many, that even with my strange and odd colouring, the foundation and powder, went on perfectly matched. I needed up buying some new oxides to see the differences, and I’m much happier with the new oxide colours! They look more flesh coloured than purple!

KeymasterWowza, lady! You are a one-woman DIY cosmetics factory haha. And I’m glad you’ve finally sourced some usable oxides! Have you considered ordering some ingredients while you’re in the UK? I definitely am haha.

ParticipantVery nice Penny!!

ParticipantMarie, for sourcing in the U.K., I can honestly say, right at this moment, I’m ok for ingredients! Unless you post something in the next few months with some awesome new ingredient, I think I’m set.
Now watch when I organize my DIY room, I’ll realize I’m low on something wickedly vital and scream for posting this comment.
I was practice packing my suitcase for my trip and realised that my suitcase was 3/4 full of containers to play mad scientist in the kitchen with my neice and nephew. My neice is at that age where she is beginning to want to explore makeup and my nephew is a little sad he’s a boy and face paint is for girls. Well, we’ll see about that. I see camouflage and war paint in his future!

ParticipantI like the wine inclusion!
Did you absolutely love the foundation?

ParticipantI hope this posts! My first ever self-made foundation!

ParticipantAnd, now I have questions….
Do I have to use jojoba or will another oil suffice? I know jojoba is technically a wax, so is that important to the recipe or more just an oil to weigh the powders down so they don’t poof everywhere?

ParticipantJojoba is more like our own sebum, which is why it’s recommended. However, you probably can use anything you’d like.
Beautiful colouring, Belinda. You did great!

ParticipantThanks! It was easier than I thought it would be to get the color right. Although, I did start with “Jess” and went from there, so that helped a lot. Unfortunately, something in this made me itch and burn badly! I had to rush to the bathroom and wash it off, sucking down some Benadryl as I ran. ~sigh~ I am so frustrated right now 😤 And itchy….

ParticipantOkay, there are steps to take with this. Take each ingredient and one by one, use it as a patch test. That will help narrow the cause. Plus check granularity f the items to make sure it was fine enough.

ParticipantFancy! Love your containers!
Maybe there was something left in the grinder from before? Hopefully this was the case so your next batch won’t itch!

ParticipantMy first thought, too, was that maybe there was something left in the container from my last project. I *think* it may have been the first cleanser Marie made, but I subbed ground Castile soap for the SCI. Leaving even a bit of that on my face would burn after 4 hours, doesn’t you think? It seemed to center around my forehead, where I was sweating. The sweating triggered the intense burning sensation I got. I am also going to use a brand new brush to apply, just in case there was something on the one I used. It was clean, but had been lying in a cosmetic drawer for who knows how long. My daughter could have used it for something (I don’t really want to think of the possibilities…) and there was unseen residue on it.
So, I will spend today doing patch tests and super-duper cleaning the coffee grinder. Or buying a second one so that I have a clean slate to create a new batch, if the patch test of individual ingredients turns up negative.
Thank you, Cyn and Barb, for making me feel more positive about this experience. I’m really hoping it was Castile soap residue and my face will be glowingly happy with the second batch I create! That first batch is getting thrown out!
Barb, those fancy containers are from TKB. They are very nice and have the twisting sifter tops. Part of my latest collection of containers…hahaha!

ParticipantIt was the twisty part I was oogaling.
Good luck on the he second attempt! I’ve attempted a second and third batch for my powder. My skin tone eludes me! I am going to try to get some help from a makeup girl in England who speaks English!

ParticipantI am fairly positive my reaction last night was to a teeny tiny bit of Castile soap that I missed when cleaning my coffee grinder after making that cleanser. I made three things last night, the powder foundation, airbrushing powder, and Elle Woods blush. I’ve been wearing the blush today with no problems at all. Not one peep out of my skin. So, out goes the first batch of foundation and airbrushing powder and new one coming up tonight or tomorrow.
Barb, I was afraid it would take me forever to match my skin. I started with “Jess” and, going against Marie’s instructions, decided that was too dark without trying it on. I added more yellow to lighten it up and that still looked really dark in the grinder. I did try it on that time and it matched! I was thinking “wow, am I really that yellow?” but I went outside with a mirror and I couldn’t see any lines of makeup on my face, just an evening of my skin tone. So, I’m “Jess” with one more pinch (1/16 tsp) of yellow. I did add one drop of green to tone down the red in some areas of my face but I couldn’t really see any discernible difference in the powder. I didn’t add more on my face, which, after what happened, is probably a good thing. Sorry I have no pointers to help you out with this. It was literally dumb luck that I matched mine so quickly.

ParticipantI am jealous. I need my base sericite now! I need it so I can make foundation. I want to do colours.
My inner six year old is having a fit. Lol
