I’ve been playing around with my skincare routine lately, and one of the things I’m toying with is the notion of gentler cleaners. I’ve been using African Black Soap a lot for the last three months (or so), and that was working brilliantly for a few months, but now it’s … not. Boo. I don’t know if it’s ’cause I’m more stressed than usual (new puppy ownership + lack of sleep will do that) or if it’s because my skin is no longer liking African Black Soap. Since the whole puppy thing isn’t going away, and it’ll take a while for the sleep situation to improve, I thought I’d try a gentler soap alternative. I’ve had quite a few requests for a micellar water recipe, so I figured this would be a good time to try one!

I have a constant New Years/Birthday/name any occasion resolution to stop touching my face. I am not very good at it. I’m an absent-minded chin-stroker, and it does absolutely no favours for my complexion. It’s infuriating. Anyhow, I have come to realize that part of convincing myself not to touch/itch/pick at stuff on my face is convincing myself that I am doing other things that are more helpful. This Even Better Zit Drying Lotion stuff is awesome. I’ve been using version 1.0 (which was inspired by a pricey shop-bought version) for a while, and it’s great, so I wanted to up my game—and here we are.

I’ve had a few requests for a lotion similar to LUSH’s Vanishing Creme, so this is it. The idea is the creme will make your acne vanish, so with that in mind, I set out to make my very own Houdini Anti Acne Creme—something worthy of the great Houdini.

This recipe is ridiculously simple. So simple, in fact, that you might think I just threw it together one day as a bit of a random idea. And you would be right. This project wasn’t supposed to be a blog entry—just an experiment. I figured I’d try it out and see, and it ended up working out so well I couldn’t keep it to myself.

I was doing some reading on problem skin about a month ago and I stumbled upon some information about linoleic acid—a fatty acid that’s present in many plant based oils. Apparently acne prone skin has been found to be deficient/low in linoleic acid, and studies have shown that adding more of it to your skin care routine can decrease acne and boost healing (another source, and another). Ok, call me intrigued.

This indigo hued anti-acne roller smells wonderful and means business when it comes to zits. Snovel91 requested this Burt’s Bees inspired recipe back around Christmas, and I’ve just collected all the essential oils to make it. Based on their Herbal Blemish Stick, this roller is loaded with great herbs and essential oils, and shrinks zits in record time. It was love at first blast for me, and I bet it will be for you, too 🙂

Drying lotion definitely seems a bit of an oxymoron, but the name comes courtesy of Mario Bedascu, along with the idea for the product. It is, more or less, rubbing alcohol, salicylic acid, and calamine lotion, and it’s designed to dry out your zits and make them vanish like a magic trick. It also performs a bit of a magic trick on your wallet, ringing in at a whopping $17/oz (hence the need for a DIY dupe).
