My Winter Survival Guide for Skin & Hair

This winter survival guide is coming to you from a Canadian girl who is not exactly one with winter. People constantly tell me that I’m the coldest person I know. I live in long underwear for eight months of the year (at a minimum). Most of my clothes are wool. I shiver in situations most humans consider perfectly comfortable. My coworkers gasp when they see my bare arms, and air conditioning is the enemy. I also live in a very dry climate—waking up parched in the middle of the night is not an uncommon occurrence, and my humidifier more than earns its keep. My soaps may age quickly, but my skin, lips, and body are in constant need of hydration. So, how do I survive winter? Here are my top tips and recipes 🙂

Things I Learned in 2015

I can scarcely believe it’s already time for my annual “Things I Learned” blog entry. I started writing these back in 2012, and I’ve written them every year since (2013 & 2014). These posts are definitely a bit of a departure from what I usually write about, but I really enjoy the reflection involved in the writing of them, and the discussion the comes from them is fantastic. So, without further ado—what I learned in 2015:

Humblebee & Me is 4!

I’m not sure how it happened, but here we are at the fourth birthday of my little blog! I can scarcely believe that thousands of you awesome people join me here to make messes—when I first got started I couldn’t imagine so many of you could ever care about my little projects.

I took an embarrassing quantity of selfies in order to end up with something where I looked sort of surprised/happy and not surprised/somebody just poked me in the bum. You're welcome... I think.

As is becoming tradition, today I’ll go over a few favourite projects from the last year—my favourites, crowd favourites, favourites for gifting, and the things I’m most proud of.

My Hair Care Routine

I did a post on my skin care routine back in May, and Maggie asked if I could write about my hair care routine as well—so here we are!

Let’s start with what I’m working with. My hair is long, thick, and straight. If you’re into “hair-typing” I’m probably a 1b, but maybe a 1a. It’s generally quite well behaved, and I don’t have any major hair frustrations. I’m also very determined to have low maintenance hair, which is likely a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don’t have my hair cut often, but when I do it’s generally long layers with a touch of shaping around the face.
