I dreamt up this cleanser for my friend and super-awesome yoga instructor Danny. He’s pretty much the sole reason I’ve been able to start running again, so when he mentioned he’d be interested in trying some of the things I make, I was on it (I definitely prefer to thank people with personalized DIY concoctions instead of a bottle of wine or flowers wherever possible). I was immediately drawn to the idea of a coniferous-y cleanser, and though I made this Forest Facial Cleanser over a month ago, it seems fitting to share it while I’m relaxing in the middle of a forest in Manitoba.

As I’ve been learning more and more about Asian beauty philosophies and trends, I’ve been really intrigued by the Asian-style toners /r/AsianBeauty raves about. Toners from Korea and Japan are focused on hydration and pH correction, packing a seriously nutrient-rich, hydration heavy punch. I’ve been learning how much my skin loves hydration over the last couples months, so a hydrating toner sounded like an awesome addition to my skincare routine. Plus, I have a ton of awesome water soluble skin goodies in my DIY cupboard, so I figured I should make something in a similar vein—hence this Hydrating Rose Water Facial Toner!

I still remember the first time I tried a foaming hand wash; I was a kid (maybe 10?), and visiting some American relatives. They always seemed to get the groovy new tech things first (not to mention all the cool kinds of candy they got that we didn’t! It took what felt like a good decade to get peanut butter M&M’s in Canada. Hrumph.). Anywho, there I am, washing my hands, and I go to get some soap and BAM! There’s a floofy cloud of Disney-scented bubble fluff in my hand. What was this sorcery? I was pretty taken with the entire thing, but my parents didn’t particularly care, and as such the foamy magic never made its way into my day-to-day life. Until now. Enter this oh-so-lovely Green Tea Foaming Hand Wash!

My green tea kick continues with this Green Tea and Roses Facial Cleanser, which pairs beautifully with my Green Tea Cleansing Oil and Green Tea Face Cream. This rose scented cleanser has a beautiful, creamy, low lather that won’t leave your skin feeling dry or stripped—just clean. I’ve already made two batches, so suffice it to stay I’m pretty fond of this Green Tea and Roses Facial Cleanser and you should definitely make some 😉

You don’t have to read much about Monoi de Tahiti to decide that you must have a bottle—stat—as it is clearly going to transform you into a tropical goddess with the waist-long luscious hair of Disney princesses and the skin of a sun-kissed Victoria’s Secret model. It can be traced back 2000 years to indigenous Polynesians—the Maohi—who used it for skin care, hair care, and religious ceremonies. Monoi is coconut oil that’s been macerated with the petals of the Tahitian gardenia, giving us a beautifully fragrant oil that’ll leave you looking for a mai tai and a Tiki-print sarong. So, it’s everything you already love about coconut oil, plus an intoxicating tropical scent. I love the idea of using it in my hair (Disney caliber locks, here I come!), but straight oil is much too much for my hair, so I decided to incorporate it into this lovely Monoi de Tahiti Hair Conditioner.

I’m on a huge hydration kick these days. Well, not so much a kick as a lifestyle change. I’m making hydration a serious priority, and my skin is so much happier for it. While staying hydrated in Calgary is always a challenge, summer is a different kind of challenge: sun exposure and more time spent outside means more wind and elements exposure, but it also means I’m less inclined to reach for heavier moisturizers. That’s where this lovely humectant packed mist comes into play.
