I’ve been doing lots of fancier DIYs lately, so I decided to step it back with a simple DIY for freshening up linens, sheets, and rooms—just in time for spring. A simple, fresh blend of peppermint and lavender essential oils are diluted in water to create a simple spray you can use to spruce up your sheets and blankets and pillows, or maybe even the inside of your car if it’s starting to smell like feet and winter and dog. Easy peasy, peppermint squeezey.
These days it’s not hard to identify me as a new puppy owner—my scratch and bite covered hands and forearms give me away pretty quickly (well, I’ve either got a puppy or a passion for naked arm wresting with rose bushes). I’ve heard puppy teeth described as staples, and I’m inclined to agree. Not standard staples for paper, though—no, no. We’re talking those heavy duty woodworking staples coming from a compressed air powered staple gun. OW. Lottie is getting better with biting (or not biting, as it were) as the days go by, but according to the interwebs, she won’t lose her puppy teeth until May or June, which means when she misses a toy and lands a bite on my hands instead, I’m going to be squealing (and bleeding) for a while. Hence, this salve.
I’ve been stepping up my yoga game over the last year or so, and I’m thrilled to notice I’ve gotten stronger and more flexible, and can now do a few things I thought were impossible a year ago. As I’ve gained muscle mass, though, it would seem my yoga mat has started to gain a small, stinky ecosystem. Oops. Time to evict that, pronto—bring on the Deodorizing Yoga Mat Spray!
I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that it’s finally warm out. It’s supposed to be 28°C (82°F) tomorrow! That’s amazing! That’s nearly double the average temperature for this time of year, which is to say spring has sprung decidedly early for this part of the world. My tulips started coming up in early March, I had to mow my lawn before April was out, and I’ve already earned my first sunburn (oops). All this warm weather and these sunny breezes are making me think about freshening up my house and my wardrobe, and while I’m no Martha Stuart, here’s what I’m doing these days.

This fun little nuggets of citrussy-scented cleaning power are like bath bombs for your toilet, except instead of softening your skin, they fizzle away at your dirty toilet bowl. As far as toilet cleaning goes, these are actually pretty fun. That’s not much, but it’s something.
